Democratic Memory Law (Grandchildren Law)
Spain's Democratic Memory Law, colloquially known as the Law of Grandchildren, allows descendants of Spanish citizens exiled during the Civil War or the Franco dictatorship to obtain Spanish nationality. This legislation seeks to repair the historical link with those who, for political, ideological, or persecution reasons, were forced to leave Spain, and offers their descendants the opportunity to regain their citizenship.
Benefits:
-
Access to European citizenship: Upon acquiring Spanish nationality, you automatically obtain citizenship of the European Union, which allows you to work, study, and reside in any member country.
-
Family reunification: New Spanish citizens can facilitate the residency or citizenship process for their close relatives.
-
Right to vote and political participation: Allows you to participate in Spanish and European elections as a full citizen.
-
Historical and cultural recognition: It represents a symbolic act of historical justice for families who suffered exile for political reasons.
