Family student visa

If you're going to study in Spain and want to come with your loved ones, we have good news! Spanish regulations allow certain immediate family members of students to legally reside in the country during your studies.

Coming with someone not only makes your experience more intimate and enjoyable, but also allows your family to grow in a new, safe, and multicultural environment.

Which family members can accompany you?

- Spouse or registered common-law partner.

- Minor children.

- Older children with disabilities who are financially dependent on you.

How can they apply for a visa?

- If they are abroad with you at the time of your application: They can apply for their visa together with you, in the same application, at the corresponding consulate.
- If you are already in Spain with a tourist visa and apply for your study permit here:

  • Your family members cannot apply at the same time.

  • They must wait for your permit to be granted first.

Important:
- If they are in Spain with you as tourists, they must leave the country to apply from abroad.
- Please note that, in order to apply, the holder of the study permit must have at least 90 days left before the end of their studies.

Can family members work?

In principle, this authorization is only for residence, not for work. However, once in Spain, they may be able to process a modification to obtain a work permit, depending on their situation.
